Every week, Real Kids, our after school program for children ages kindergarten through middle school, on average, have over a hundred kids, and teens flood the stairs with excitement, but this week we had over two hundred!
This Wednesday, we held The Easter Extravaganza! The multipurpose room was jammed packed! There were several different games and activities for the kids to do, and every table had more candy than any child could ever eat. The kids rotated tables; some got their faces painted, or played with play-dough. Others enjoyed a few rounds of jelly bean BINGO, made friendship bracelets, or had a coloring sheet contest!
Real Kids is only going to keep growing as it continues to influence the youth in a positive way.
Ross Dyer, the student leadership director, at Real Church, is a small part in what God is doing in Teenagers who live in Detroit and Hamtramck, MI. As a group, they are making a difference, not just in their schools, and among their friends, but in their families. We are believing that if students ingrain the godly standards that Ross talks about, that there is no limit to what they will allow God to do in and through them. Both the leaders and students at Repo, want whatever God has for them and for the city they inhabit.
“These first two months of 2012 have been ridiculously amazing here at Repo. We have been able to develop some really cool programs, and improve what has already been established within the ministry.
The newest addition to Repo are our RIOT groups (Righteous Invasion of Truth). This student discipleship program is a chance for students to take the next step in their walk with Christ. They are challenged to memorize scripture weekly, do daily devotions, talk to friends about Jesus everyday, and grow together as a group.
Together we are challenging each other to live what we learn and to not just say “I Believe,” but to go the next step and tell you why we believe it.”
With anticipation building for the past two months, the Real Church team and the people of Hamtramck have been getting excited for the kick off of our Hamtramck campus re-launch. During the past two weeks, volunteers have swept through the entire building to get it ready for our new services, along with the opening of our new café, Courage Coffee!
On our first Sunday afternoon, the doors opened up to more than 80 people. With Pastor Chilly bringing the word, hearts were turned back to Jesus. All around our building, several different ministries were taking place. For example, kids went down stairs to embark on an adventure at Camp Courage while the preschool and nursery learned about Moses and the burning bush.
The anticipation has transitioned into hard work and excitement for how God is moving in the lives of people in Hamtramck through Real Church and Courage Coffee. We can see God beginning to radically transform the city!
